What the houses are like
Two kinds of house, and they fail differently. The block homes that came through 1992 still have their original wood fascia and window trim, which is where drywood termites end up. The rebuilt streets went up fast afterwards with tighter soffits and newer framing, so those calls are usually ants at the slab line or a rat that found the gap where a roof plane meets a wall. Canal lots on the east side get both, plus whatever walks up the bank at night.
How the year runs here
The canals set the calendar. Mosquitoes never fully stop here, they only get worse from June, and a neighbour with an unturned birdbath is enough to keep a whole block busy. Termites swarm at lit windows in March and April. Then the first cool front in November pushes roof rats off the bank and into attics, which is why we book so many attic checks the week the weather finally breaks.
