What the houses are like
Newer slab construction with tile roofs and sealed soffits keeps most things out, so the calls we get are lawn calls: fire ant mounds appearing overnight after rain, and mosquitoes breeding in the swale that never quite drains. Where houses back onto a canal or a preserve, the perimeter is doing all the work, and a barrier treatment out there is worth more than anything done indoors.
How the year runs here
The wet season runs the year here. Fire ants build after every heavy rain from May onward and a mound can be a foot across in two days. Mosquitoes come off the swales and the retention ponds all summer. The dry months are quiet enough that this is the best time of year for a termite inspection, because you can actually see the ground.

If there are children or a dog in that yard, yes. Individual mounds can be knocked down, but they come back from the same colony, so the yard is treated as a whole and checked again after the next heavy rain.
